27 May 2012 - Weedpatch San Clemente
Mountain biking in the Weedpatch gave me the desire to go learn more about the area, and I wanted to run again anyway, so I decided to go run.
Blue Chair (First Three Segments): 0.9 mi; 166' gain; 150' loss
Wall Street: 0.5 mi; 42' gain; 276' loss
Looking down at the little climb up to the top of Wall Street
Top of Wall Street looking toward the ocean
Don's Crossing: 0.5 mi; 138' gain, 54' loss
Oregon Trail: 0.35 mile; 26' gain, 146' loss
Ho Chi Min: 0.28 mile; 93' gain, 80' loss
Oregon Trail from Ho Chi Min - very weedy, not much trail. Very dry with lots of yellow grass - kind of reminded me of John Day, Oregon.
Mike & Linda's: 0.6 mi; 113' gain; 127' loss
Climbing out of Mike & Linda's
The end of Mike & Linda's
Connect the Dots: 0.68 mi; 266' gain; 86' loss
I'm liberally applying the title Connect the Dots to this section of trail - from the end of Mike & Linda's, through the regular section of Connect the Dots, up the switchbacks on the hill to the right, and through the firebreaks to wherever I dropped into Dan Juan.
Dan Juan: 0.55 mi; 122' gain; 211' loss
The stats on the Dan Juan trail are deceptive. It is a very technical trail dropping into a deep canyon with sidehills, bridges, steep drops, heavy vegetation, and little room for error (even on foot).
One of the crazy drops that I could barely manage on foot, much less think about doing on a mountain bike.
The bottom-of-the-canyon section, complete with tunnels, empty bottles of herbicide, and poison oak.
Ricardo Hill: 0.75 mi: 551' gain
This climb out of the canyon was a little crazy
Arrival at the top gave a nice view of some nice neighborhoods and the ocean.
Black Death/Black Pleasure: 1.28 mi; 104' gain; 452' loss
The name of this section depends on which way you travel. If you travel east-west, or uphill, it's called Black Death. If you travel opposite, it's called Black Pleasure. After Ricardo Hill, it's nice to be able to take Black Pleasure.
Overall Weedpatch Route: 6.38 miles; 1612' gain, 1583' loss
Just where is it I could find bear, beaver, and other critters worth cash money when skint?
