My wife, dog and I are camping this Sun. and Mon. nights. We'd like to stay at Goblin Valley SP and do some exploring from there. I've searched several websites about the campsites there but can't seem to find out if the "grill" these sites mention is a campfire ring or a freestanding grill-on-a-pole type of deal. We gotta have a campfire!
I know there are a lot of campsites outside the park but the lure of a hot shower with a 13 degree low is just too great. Plus, we don't expect it to be too crowded. :haha:
Thanks

I have never camped in those sites but I did clean my porta-potti out at their facilities. I am pretty sure I saw campfire pits there.
If you don't want to get raped by their price per night for camping you can drive down the dirt road that forks west towards little wild horse canyon. It is just a little before you enter the park, mabey .5 to 1 mile before. You can find primitive camping all along the south side where other dirt roads fork off.

(435) 564-3633

I called and you have to leave a message. I am sure they know. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

The three times I’ve camped there our sites had the grill on a pole that we made a small fire in. It looked as if all the small sites were the same, but I am only about 85% sure. We went in the late fall one year and the small fire in the grill was not enough to keep us very warm.

I would camp in Chute Canyon Wash just down the road from there and use one of the many car-camp undeveloped fire rings and build a fire big enough to signal the Gods. But I don’t have ethical issues with using fire rings at undeveloped car-camp sites.

In the "off season" I like to camp in north temple wash. Even after a good storm storm you can still drive a car up to the first campsite. Plus its close to the paved road, less then a mile .... but that camp site sucks on say.. easter weeked... too many ATV's rolling around that area.

I took this picture just above this campsite in North Temple Wash. It gives you a pretty good idea of where it is.
