Anyone know what the conditions are like on the Pfiefferhorn right now? I'd like to get it off my to-do list this weekend, but I don't want to go up there if the conditions are too wintery. (I don't have any technical winter gear).
Thanks. |

| If approaching from the north, I'd bet it would be a little dicey. I was on the back side of Timp on Sunday, and I doubt I would've been able to make the summit comfortably. Who knows though, if the snow consolidates well, you might have an easier time. |

I'd say it doesn't matter too much what conditions are like now, the question is what will conditions be like by the weekend? Check the forecast for Alta:

Yeah, its pretty much winter up there. Given how little snow is up at Alta's parking lot (ie, none), I was surprised how much is up high. We looked at Snowbird's Twin Peaks on the way down the canyon last weekend, and, there's a bunch of snow above 10k'.
From summer, straight into winter, up high. Crazy.
Thank goodness I finished my bidness up on Devil's Castle on 21 September. That north side hasn't been dry since. Brrr...

Well, maybe it's time to break out the skis. :) |

Just saw these pics from last summer on the NR of the Pfiefferhorn. Whoo hooo!

I've only done it in summer, and, probably wouldn't again. Loose little critter.
A winter ascent of the NR has come appeal, though.
And going up the standard route in the winter is pretty fun.
