This trail is well maintained, reasonably smooth with only a few technical sections, but it is almost never horizontal. It is either up or down with moderately steep grades. Factoring in the more than 5,000 feet of climbing suggests riding this at the end of the season when you are feeling your strongest. The climbing associated with this ride pushes its rating close to expert.

Rode this loop clockwise with a 2.3 mile spur out to Lewis Peak proper. The initial climb is an unrelenting 9.3% grade for 3 miles after which the grade eases up a bit. At the 7 mile point there is an option to take the spur west to the top of Lewis Peak and come back (4.6 miles total) which will take about 50 minutes if you spend a little time on the peak to enjoy the views.

Continuing north on the ridge you will come to a 1.5 mile set of switchbacks descending into North Ogden Pass which were cut at 19.5%. This is tough going down, and a real test of fitness riding up. I've never seen anybody ride up but some have claimed they can.

At the bottom of North Ogden Pass there is about 3.5 miles of pavement to get back on singletrack along the shore of Pineview Reservoir. I've asked local riders and looked myself, but I can't find a way to avoid this paved section.
