These pics were taken in Fountain Flats, about 10 miles from Old Faithful in Yellowstone Park. The pictures were taken by Mike Tercek March 30 2005. He describes the event as follows:
The buff-griz encounter is one of the coolest things that
I have seen during the 15 years that I have lived in the park.
The pictures appear in chronological order. The bear walked across the
road in front of me and started chasing the buffalo herd across the
field. Eventually one of the bulls challenged the griz and ran him off.
The last picture shows how the bull and bear were running in parallel
circles around the herd, with the bull on the inside track.

Those are some really neat pictures. That bear is big, but that Buff is HUGE! Thanks for sharing.

I really don't see much difference between the bear and sombeech, except the bear can run faster.

Great pictures!

We might confirm that when I go to the Wind Rivers this month.

cool pics!

Having just recently returned from Yellowstone, I appreciate the photos more. Those Buffalo are kind of a nuisance! There's a section of road just south of Canyon junction where there are buffalo on the road CONSTANTLY. An example from my photo blog:

They were walking past our car on both sides. We could have stuck out a hand and pet them as they passed by (but we didn't).

That's pretty cool.

I'm going to WalMart to get some Buffalo Jerky now.

I remember my 4th grade teacher tried to tell us that Buffalo were extinct, then we told her they were roaming right out on Antelope Island.
