| Yup, that's bear country. The only bear I've ever seen in the wild was about 6 miles south of Strawberry at Baldy Mountain, prolly 7 years ago. |

Yeah, I know it's a thousand miles away, but I can't believe the number of bears I've seen this year already. Last year, I think I saw about 3 while hiking. This year, I'm up to about 8 individual bears in 5 different sightings, including 3 cubs.
This pretty mama had 2 cubs with her - they disappeared into the underbrush just before I took this pic:

very cool.
only bears i ever seen were in the olympics. it was early october and the huckleberries were just right. mmmmmm.... saw at least 1 bear every day for 6 days.
except for the wichita mountains in ok and that wa trip, typically the only wildlife i've seen is marmots or ground critters or birds. it really disappoints me. w/ so many people enjoying the outydoors it seems our wilderness areas are less "wilderness" areas and more "undeveloped" areas in many cases. |

| Saw four bears in Glacier NP and Waterton Lakes several weeks back. It's very common there. |

| I heard of a bear last weekend going through a boy scout camp, ripping up a tent near Tammarack Lake. |
