This was my first ATV ride, and it was awesome! We camped near Temple Mountain Friday night, and Saturday morning we headed out over the Behind the Reef Trail all the way to Hidden Splendor, then took the main gravel road back over McKay Flat to our camp. Round trip was 60 miles and took about eight hours. The most awesome place of the entire ride was the trail going down into and back out of Cistern Canyon. That place is just gorgeous.
Here's a compilation of videos from the trail. My digital camera only takes 30-second clips, so it's just a bunch of them bundled together, and the quality isn't great. Check out RedMan's post for a much better video.
On to the pictures... |

We need to get that dude back on here.
Nice pics and video. I had no idea there was a trail near the ding-dang dome. |

Udink,
You pup, we were out riding the same trail at about the same time!! :roflol: Wonder if we crossed paths?? Your first wheeler ride?? Then you picked a hell of a nice trail to "1st Time " on. It was our first time on the "Behind Three Reef Trail" also.
I'll agree with you, there are spots along the way that a jeep could not get past, in fact I check once and I had less than a inch on either side of the wheeler. Couple steep spot along the way where I had Liza get off and walk.
Good to know you enjoyed trip.

I think I might have seen you one of those times that I turned around and peered back through the dust cloud. :lol8: Seriously though, we had a great time. Camping was much more fun with a smaller group (and no kids!). The only bad part was sharing the trail with the 20+ other riders that seemed to show up at the worst spots in the trail. |

Great trip report. Thanks for posting some very good pics.
Now I know that I want to do that trail too. Maybe this summer. |
