I'm looking to purchase a compact camcorder. In attempting (in my feeble way) to do some research, all I accomplished was confusing myself totally. (That's not all that difficult.)
I want a good unit, reliable. Will spend many days in a Pelican case while on the river. Must be relatively small. I'm thinking no more than $1K.
Any suggestions? A specific question, what kind of storage medium is best?
Thanks. |

I bought my camcorder a couple of years ago and I don't know that they even make it anymore. That being said, I love it.
Here is a link to an Amazon page for it:

I would really recommend getting something comparable to this camcorder. |

I'd recommend the 3CCD cameras from Panasonic. They are super small, and have much better sensors than the 1CCD cameras from everyone else. Of course, they are only SD, if you want HD, a little over a grand is the starting point. I'd bet you can find some nice Pannys for under 500. They are the least expensive 3CCD out there. We use one at work sometimes, works nicely.

You can get great camcorders for $1000, in fact, I'd never spend that much.
Do you want great still shot quality as well, an all in one camera?
If you are going to bring a separate still shot camera with you, just go cheap on the camcorder. I'd get one for around 300 bucks. |
