Why would I call it the eye candy tour you ask? Well we did go through Las Vegas or sin city if you will. But mainly we got to see some great scenery. We went from red rock to deep forest to red rock to the hot city to the desert and back to the Wasatch. BTW...my new name for Vegas is Fun Bag USA. Go ahead and think on that one... :naughty:
On to the story. The weather has been so beautiful that we wanted to chew up some pavement and my beemer had been talking to me a bit on the way to work. The ole girl was getting sick of the stop and go commute. She wanted to hit the open road and see some things, let the ole pipes really breath and clear her throat. So a friend and I from work decided to get out a map and highlight a path. We decided to head south and find some warmer temps with a stop in Vegas for a buffet n stuff. Sounds good ehhh...:five:
Oh yeah and I got in a race with some girls in a Mustang on the way to Vegas. I opened her up and hit 130. :eek2:
Our final route...it was 1300 miles in two days.
Our first gas stop was in Hanksville. This was after a 6AM start and going over spanish fork canyon in the dark. Man was that a bloody cold ride...:cold:
Just outside Hanksville and it was starting to warm up. The sun was out, the skies were blue and things were on the up and up.
Headed towards Torrey and you couldn't ask for better weather.
Grand Staircase Escalante
Curves??? Bring it!
9600ft? But it was not cold at all and I was switching to my summer riding clothes..
Heading towards Bryce...
Where's Wilma?

Well Moo what can I say? We did have to take a 35 mile and back detour to Ely for gas. We got to Majors Place and their was NO gas. We had to limp into to Ely. Not bad tho and a little canyon in between. Some jokers at a bar in Majors Place said they had an "emergency" supply and they would sell it to us for $12 for 2 gallons. This was the ONLY structure in this "town," we just saw this place on a map and thought it would be a gas stop. But I also knew that Ely was up the road. Anyway we gave them the middle finger on our way back through. I named lots of these stretches through Nevada, "triple digit highway."
I saw your pictures tonight and heard about your little push through some foreign to me white material. :lol8: |

Somebeech - just bite the bullet and get one - join the adventure!
Tomorrow I take Double Calf to pick up his new (to him) bike. He is picking up an '04 V-Strom 650. Ready for adventure - TKCs, hand guards, skid plate, etc... ready to roll!
OK so I was trying to be cute with the whole name recognition thing.... and it seems to have failed.... Double Calf sound a little gay... like something to be ordered at Starbucks.... sooooo I'm sorry. We'll just refer to him as Senor Drummer!! |
