I went snowshoeing a couple of times this last week, but I really long for summer hiking. As I was daydreaming of normal hiking, I noticed that Maple Flats was not really listed on the site. I went to Maple Flats in November for the first time (geocaching) and I thought I would share it.

To get to the Maple Flats, you hike up the "Y" and just keep going past it. There is a trail that continues on past the "Y" from the southeast tip of the "Y". The main reason why I even share it with you guys is that the actual trail to the flats is one of the greenest areas in the Provo area. The trail becomes thick green and then pines once you get past the "Y" It is about a 1000' elevation gain to the "Y", another 1500' gain to the flats (It is an elevation of about 8000 feet).

The "Y" Trail Head: N40 14.690 W111 37.630
Bear Flats (Trail head for Maple Flats)l: N40 14.753 W111 36.357
Maple Flats: N 40° 14.474 W 111° 36.568

If you are ever hike the "Y" (or want a reason to hike it) head up to Maple Flats. I really enjoyed it. There is a geocache up top. If you would like to check out the cache, here is the link:

You two have matching backpacks, sweet :haha:

I have never been up to maple flats, but I have been on the trail. I hike to Y the Y with my son. Doing those switchbacks with a 40lb pack on is a good after work hike.
Do you ever go up little rock canyon? Or have you done the loops from Slate canyon or Rock Canyon to the Y trail?

Yeah all the time. I grew up here in Provo not a mile away from Rock Canyon. I don't know why but growing up the only hikes I ever really did was Rock Canyon or the Y. So I have been all over both of them. I still think of the Y as my go to place for a hike.
