I just wanted to post these pictures. When people have seen the "helmet cam" footage of Green Valley Loop
http://uutah.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=424
and
http://uutah.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=425
they ask me "You have a helmet cam?"

To which I reply "Umm, sure." Here's the picture of my brand new camcorder strapped to accadacca's helmet, in which I was very nervous. It turned out great though.

By the way, I am interested in an "actual" helmet cam. Something that would just clip onto a helmet, running a cable to my backpack and hooking into my safely stored camcorder. Anybody know where to get one? :ne_nau:

I did a search for it on www.ktmtalk.com There are a lot of guys using them on that site. There is 3 pages of posts with info, links, people using them, etc, etc, etc. You have to register for the site to view the page. Free quick and easy though. Good info on this search page. Once you have signed in then click on this link.

In case you wondering........the duct tape on top of the car was never used. :lol8: It was the initial thought; but would have never worked. We used several different types of bungee cords. Worked GREAT! :2thumbs:

I'll have to do some digging for where my friend picked one up at (but I do know it was local here in SLC). They work pretty good, and for sure it's a lot safer than the camcorder on the helmet...... however......

The experience I've had with them is that without the image stabilization features most camcorders have, the picture is really, really jumpy. Ok to watch on a small TV, but when you put it up on the big one it can make you sick if the trail is really bumpy. You also have to be careful to make sure it's aligned properly (if it's too low you find yourself with a sore neck as you watch the video, as if that will raise it!) and you also need to pay special attention to the 'up' orientation as they can twist and then everything looks sideways.

I have seen a new samsung unit that records MPEG4 video and has a helmet cam option - may be a good idea if you don't have either helmet cam or camcorder, but I don't know anything about quality, conversion, etc. so if somebody has one, let's hear about it!

Thanks for the feedback. Anybody else had experience with a helmet cam?
