like price adn scott, i spent new years around north wash. constrichnine (again...) and arscenic (again...). i prefer to not do the same thing twice but oh well, better than getting wet in winter.
really like them both. the big raps in constrichnine are gorgeous and arscenic's curvy slides are a blast. that 1st curvy slide has a loose chokstone at the top. be careful.

yeah, they were both bone dry. an entourage went thru hard day harvey that day which i was more than happy to pass on due to group size alone, but turns out it also had soem deep wades. *brrrrrr* we had planned to do long canyon instead of the black hole on new years, but my memory got us (waaaaay) off track from teh git go, so we did a hike and lost canyon's upper drops instead. really glad to. was not looking forward to getting any type of wet. hmmmmm, maybe i subconciously "forgot" teh right gap ? had a blast anyway !
and i wanted to make him happy to be there, but randi thought relaxed was more appropriate. |

actually HDH was not a problem at all.
as we dropped in the potholes had water in them from the snow of a couple of days previously but were mostly avoidable. after about 1 hour all evidence of water disappeared.
a great canyon with a great group, and I did not have shoe problems this year. |

hi bruce,
it was nice to finally meet you! thanks again for dinner
now, as i remember it in the upper part of HDH there was actually a fair bit of unavoidable water some even upper thigh-waist deep. . i decided to ditch the wetsuit this time around, remembering that it was bone dry the previous january. fortunately it wasn't very cold and the continuously athletic canyon keeps ya pretty warm. lower part of the canyon was mostly dry, with pockets of water here and there.
must say it was fun do do Hard Day Harvey as the first canyon of the year (jan 7) and the last canyon of the year (dec 31)
also, there were two swimmers in trail, as others had noted. |
