| We are going down to San Rafael for the weekend, and I wasn't sure if there are any caves that I should be made aware of. Thanks. |

| There are some small caves and big sinkholes in the area, but nothing I know of that seems very interesting for cavers. |

Yep, huh is right. I assume capn_blasto's comment was just a troll. :lame:
So, Sinkhole Flat (which is pictured in your photo I assume) was named for potholes? :crazycobasa: Lots of other sinkholes thoughout the Swell in the Sindbad limestone. |

| The MK Tunnels in San Rafael Swell are pretty cool. If anyone is interested, I could post photos and location. |

These pics are from a recent trip in early September. The tunnels are man-made holes drilled by the military when they were searching for an appropriate site for the NORAD headquarters. Sandstone lost out to the granite found near Colorado Springs.

| I'm going down to the swell this weekend. Does anyone know if the MK tunnels are still open? |

Yup, they're still open. I think DOGM is planning on closing them off this spring/summer sometime, but it may even happen later than that.
Oh, and be sure to stop by my Buckhorn Wash cache while you're there! Just don't hurt yourself coming back down. :lol8: |

About a mile north of Castle Dale, turn off Highway 10 at these coordinates:
N 39° 13.248' W 110° 59.825'
From there, drive east and keep straight at any intersections. About 18 or 19 miles down the road from the first coordinates, turn south when you reach these coordinates:
N 39° 10.168' W 110° 42.244'
From there it's about another mile south to the tunnels, which are located at:
N 39° 09.570' W 110° 43.031'
All of the road except for the last mile is passable by any vehicle. The last mile of dirt road is kind of rough, but anything with high clearance can make it as long as it's not muddy. |
