Someone sent me the following riddle.... can anyone here answer it? I can't.
A roughly 5-mile run at the bottom of a chasm gets it roughly one mile closer to standing still. About how high up would you have to meander to catch the sunrise?

The shortcut is a lot easier: second star to the right, then straight on. |

It appears this riddle comes from part of the
Marlboro OutWit the West 3 Contest

I guess I should feel special that someone thought I might be smart enough to actually answer that question :lol8: |

I'm guessing it has something to do with the Colorado running through the Grand Canyon. As the river runs 5 miles, it's only 1 mile in a straight line. Then, it gets closer to standing still in Lake Mead?
So, the answer is the depth of the Grand Canyon?
Either that, or the Snake River, but I can't think of the Snake River standing still really (in the form of a well known lake). This is why I think it's the Colorado, as it eventually dries up. |

Hmmmm.... the answer must be in:
How high, in hundreds of feet?
That is how it's printed in the contest book. There are 5280 feet in a mile. make any sense? |

This is my guess.
Quote: The Colorado River flows along the bottom of the canyon, 5000 feet/1524 m below the rim.
