So today Gerry and I did a longer variation of last weekend's ride. Up the road in Emigration Canyon to Little Mountain Summit, down into Mountain Dell Canyon, then up to Big Mountain Summit on US 65. That's where the dirt started. Straight up the ridge on the Great Western Trail. About 800' in the first mile, kinda loose, but not impossible for the most part. After the inital climb, the trail follows the ridgeline for a while. Turns to a dirt road after a bit, but then back to singletrack as you head towards Lookout Peak. The whole dirt portion of the ride is basically going around Mountain Dell Canyon. After passing Swallow Rocks, it's all singletrack. Turns to dense Aspen and evergreen, pretty cool. Then its down the Lookout Peak ridge to the four-way above Affleck Park. We took the right down Killyon Canyon, very rutted but fun, back to Emigration Canyon Road and down to the valley. Twas a long ride, seven hours, about 32 miles if anyone cares about that.

You could call it Big Mountain Loop. :ne_nau:
Yeah, figure we should get some riding in before it starts to snow. |
