| Some friends and I are heading down to climb Mt. Timpanogos sometime between the 5th and the 20th of next month. Rather than trying to hit the road at 4AM to beat the heat, we will be car camping the evening before our "assault" on the summit. Can anybody tell me which sites are best for pitching tents in the Mt. Timpanogos and Timpanooke Campgrounds? Is one campground noticeably better than the other for our purposes? Are there any other desireable distributed camping sites in the immediate vicinity of the Aspen Grove or Timpanooke trailheads? |

I have camped at Timpanoke a couple of times with good results. It is literally in the same parking lot as the Timpanoke trailhead, though you will have to move your car. I can’t say if one site # is better than the other. They seem to be all pretty much the same.
Having climbed the mountain from both Timpanoke and Aspen Grove I prefer Timpanoke. It is less steep and overall more beautiful. If you are fit enough to climb the summit and visit the Emerald Lake area by descend the “glacier”, and then you will have seen the best of both routes. IMO
Also Timpanoke is north facing and you can start at 6 or 7 and me more than halfway up before the sun is on you.
Be sure to take lots of pictures.
