South Tent Mountain is a fairly easy high point, but I was out of shape when I hiked it solo back in August 2004. I drove in along Skyline Drive from the north. The drive was long and a little rough, but otherwise not too bad.

I parked at the base of North Tent Mountain, then followed an old road (which has been demolished by the Forest Service) up to the top. After reaching both summits of North Tent Mountain, I hiked over the saddle to South Tent Mountain. From there, I hiked straight down the mountainside and took the most direct route back to Skyline and my vehicle.

Upon reaching my vehicle, I saw that there were some thunderstorms rolling in from the north, and I had no desire to be stuck in the mud on Skyline Drive in my 4x2 Mazda, so I drove south and eventually came out near Joe's Valley.

I've linked to some of the larger pictures below so the page doesn't scroll horizontally.

Thanks for the TR Udink, I have added it to the Utah High Pointing Index .

South Tent is a great little hike in a cool part of the state. Those late summer thunder storms can be vicious. That coupled with the clay- covered roads can make for an interesting trip.
