I've owned a Kel-Tec P-11 9mm handgun for years, but I've finally upgraded to something a little more reliable (and pretty!). On Tuesday, I went into Cabela's with the intention of spending a $10 gift card that I got for my birthday last year, but I ended up buying a Springfield XD-40 Sub-Compact instead. :smile:

The original packaging included the handgun, two magazines (9 and 12 rounds), gun holster, mag holster, mag loader, gun lock, barrel brush (plastic bristles), and an allen wrench to adjust the holster tension.

So far, I love it! My Kel-Tec was double-action only, while this is single-action only, and the trigger pull is much nicer. The grip and trigger safeties are not really a big deal, if you're holding the handgun correctly it is easy to fire without any problems. Since it's bigger and heavier than the Kel-Tec, there's obviously less recoil, so it's much more comfortable to fire a lot of rounds during one range trip.

The XD pistols are supposed to stack up against the Glocks pretty well, but I've never fired a Glock, so I have nothing for comparison. It cost an extra $30 for the stainless slide over the blued slide, but I don't mind paying a bit extra for good looks.

It's .40 S&W. I figured that was the best compromise between size and stopping power. I wanted something small enough for concealment, but something with enough power to put down most bad guys quickly. I think law enforcment uses .40 a lot, so I figured I couldn't go wrong with that.

Coingrats! Those XD's are great shooters. I was at the range last week and a guy had one. He tried one of my Glocks and I tried his XD. (Although his was in 9 mm.)I was impressed with how smooth the trigger pull was.

Thanks for the links. I could actually use some of that advice myself. My trip to the range yesterday showed that I need a little improvement, as my consistency is not what it should be. I shoot a handgun right-handed (rifle left-handed), and I'm left eye dominant, and I think that makes things a little difficult for me. My wife doesn't really shoot at all, but that's something that I think will change, she loves the XD as well! :haha:

I'd highly recommend Frontsight. You'd be glad you went. But try to find some of the 2-day handgun certs on eBay so you can do it for cheap.

Glad to hear you like the new gun. I am looking for the same thing in a 45acp. I had a Glock and loved it but I like a few things about the Springfield a little more.

1- Springfield gives you two safetys. Trigger and on the back of the grip. Glocks only have the trigger safety.
2- When shooting both side by side It feels like the Springfield has a little bit smoother and shorter trigger pull.

Try shooting a rabbit with that gun and see what happens! I shot one with my Glock in 40 cal. and it was incredible.
