I just got a new reel and just had to try it out on my lunch break. I caught a couple browns to show for my efforts.

Cool! Where did you go? And on your lunch break... :cool2:

What kind of combo did you buy?

This may sound a little strange but I was in Vegas in January and cruised over to the Bass Pro Shop and was a little perplexed with the 5000 rod selection they had. So I grabbed a 6.5 foot fiberglass rod for about $20. It is really hard to tell how you will like a rod without actually casting it with something on it. Well, I got it home and tried fishing with it and I hated it. It was like fishing with a wet noodle. I wasn’t about to take it back, so I cut off the last foot of rod and guides to make a shorter but stiffer rod. It worked out great, long enough to cast, and short enough to fish tight quarters. I paired it with a shimano fx1000 I got off ebay and I was ready for fishing. Total cost about $35 for a “custom” outfit.
