There were four college sophomores at Duke University taking Chemistry and all of them had an A for the year . These four friends were so confident , that the weekend before finals, they decided to visit some friends and have a big party.
They had a great time, but after all the hearty partying, they slept all day Sunday and didn't make it back to Duke until early Monday morning. Rather than taking the final that day , they decided that after the final, they would explain to their professor why they missed it.
They spoke to the professor as a group and explained that they visited friends, but on the way back, had a flat tire. As a result of the unfortunate occurrence , they missed the final exam and would like to take a make-up exam .
The professor agreed they could make up the final the very next day. The guys were excited and relieved. They studied Monday night for the exam. On Tuesday, the Professor placed them in separate rooms because of the lack of available proctor's to monitor cheating, and gave each a test booklet. They quickly answered the first problem, worth five points. Each of them answered correctly. Overconfidence and the extra night for studying seemed to pay off. Each student chuckled to himself while sitting alone in his separate testing room, thinking the exam was going to be easy .
Each student then turned the page. On the second page was written:
