Top o' the year to ya! :2thumbs:
i was invited to introduce myself, but not sure what exactly to say. being born and raised in salt lake i have an obvious addiction to the wasatch mountains and to southern utah. going away to college and coming back for grad school has only made it worse...worse because after just finishing grad school last summer, i now reside in boston for work (BU) for 3 years, after which i will be returning to the west! the west afterall is the best. though i am digging the city (as living in "one" is kinda new for me), i am greatly missing my monthly trips down south and my any-day-of-the-week freedom to ski. argh... that wasatch powder ROCKS!!! i guess it will help me to appreciate it all even more now.
my loves are skiing (in bounds and B/C), telemarking, hiking, backpacking and canyoneering. skiing of course was my first true love...introduced to me at age 4 by my father who came from greece and never had skied a day in his life. for that to him i am forever indebted, as it has made every winter in utah some of the best times of my life!! my other true love is being in southern utah(colorado plateau really), i think there is a real nice balance between dayhiking, slipping and stemming through tight and/or deep slots and backpacking, spending 3-10 days linking canyons and overland routes, immersing oneself in the shear allure of the desert.
even just finding a nice place to sit and look at the rock can be a satisfying experience!!
oh, yeah, one of my other great loves would be wandering through coniferous forests, yeah, there's something about those pines, spruces, firs, douglas-firs, hemlocks, redwoods, and cedars of all sorts, especially the way they can make the most magnificent cathedrals....simply awe-inspiring. i have spent a bit of time exploring them from california to alaska, as well as canada, idaho, and montana. there is something so magical about the pacific coastal temperate rainforests...it's too bad we've cut much of the old-growth down (CA,OR,WA) and are continuing to cut at alarming rates (CAN,AK). :frustrated:
well, enough about me....
cheers

Welcome and thanks for the intro. I hope you're not trying to keep a low profile or anything, but for those that don't know, Stefan was one of the amazingly skilled canyoneers featured in my most recent "My Fault, Your Fault" video. Actually he is the one that came up with the "fake" names for the canyons. It was great to meet you then and again now.
Eric. |
