I'm actually just wondering how the beaches have recovered since the hurricanes. Summers and I will be in Central America for about 6 weeks starting on the 24th of January.

Anyone know how cancun looks? (Just so everyone knows, I'm not going to that crap hole, i just figure the beaches there are in the same condition as the place I'm going.)

Hey I was in the Yucatan for all of last week. Cancun beaches are mostly gone-- just bare rock. I hear that they're shipping in sand. :haha: Also hear that about 50% of the hotels are out of commission. We had reservations in P. Aventuras that got cancelled because its out. However, if you take the ferry out to Isla Mujeres, where we spent the first 3 days of our trip, the beaches are in tip top shape. Didn't have time to check out Acumal or any of the other cities along the coast. Spent a few days in Merida, thats a pretty cool place, but no beaches, a day in Valladolid. Uxmal rocks. Chichen is disneyland like you say, but a good place to see once. Coba was pretty interesting too.

We spent thanksgiving in Tulum. The beaches were fine there, as well as most buildings. Cancun was in rough shape still but I didn't spend any time there except for getting to and from the airport. The vegetation was regrowing pretty quick as well. Snorkeling was mediocre from shore but we went to Yalku lagoon in Akumal and it was good there. rock-ski had Coba dried out any? When we were there, the parking lot was flooded, as well as the shops.

Thanks so much guys. I'm excited to get back to tulum. It's the best. Cancun is not on my list, but Valladolid definitely is. I love love love that town. I mean, how can you not love a place that has this:

PS, anyone who might be down in Central America is welcome to meet up with us. Or anyone who has suggestions, we'll be all over Guate, Belize, Mexico, Honduras, and Costa Rica. Thanks again.

No worries. Hey, you being an Italian bird and all, you must know of Valentino Rossi. He is a MotoGP racer. He is probably like Shaquille O'Neil to a lot of Italians. Check out this clip if you have not. Lots of good footage of him. It didn't work for accadacca, but maybe it will for you.
