Hey all,
My wife and I are going to be heading down to the Bluff, Utah area in a week or so- and I'm wondering if anyone can suggest some cool ruins we could go look at. I know there's stuff down on Cedar Mesa- but I can't remember where- it's been a long time. If you know of some cool places and can give me lat/lon or send me a map file it'd be much appreciated. Here are a couple of my favorites.
Butler Wash & Ballroom Cave Ruins

The book "A Hiking Guide To Cedar Mesa" by Peter Francis Tassoni is well worth the coin.
The ruins in Natural Bridges Monument are also really good.

Kelseys book has some good ones as well.
Mule, Arch, Fry, Fish, Owl, Road, Lime, are all good.
If you want to see some that aren't in the guidebooks, check out the following:
Upper White and Armstrong above Natuaral Bridges, the area of Hotel Rock, Castle Creek, Devils Canyon, and McCloyd Canyon. I won't give specific directions, and I'll leave the exploring to you, but each is well worth the visit. |

| Thanks for the Beta. Sites used to be printed on the 1927 series topo maps that the USGS puts out- but in later printings that data has been removed. I appreciate your help. |

| tons of good ruins near bluff. ask in the twin rocks cafe or trading post for ideas. heres a couple pics of nearby attractions. |

It's interresting. I actually rub shoulders with aot of archaeologists in my line of work- but hell if I can get any one of them to let slip the location of auin that'd be known to all the kids at the supermarket in
Blanding. Archaeologists are a tight-lipped bunch. You think they'd have a few places that they could tell everyone about- that have been picked clean- just to get the public awareness going. Nope. |
