I got a pair of MSR Denali snoweshoes for Christmas and I'm aching to try them out, but not sure of where to go for a first outing. I'm looking for somewhere close to Ogden and with little or no avalance danger. I've thought about the trails just up on Mt. Ogden, but I'm sure those don't have enough snow to warrent snowshoes yet. I've thought about Coldwater Canyon (in Ogden Canyon) and recall that as being a pretty well shaded trail. Maybe it would have enough snow?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I don't get up toward Ogden much, but I have snowshoed up in the Lewis Peak area a couple of times. Just catch the trail from North Ogden Pass. It is a nice little hike and the avalanche danger isn't too high as long as you stay away from the cornices. I was up there last week and there wasn't a lot of snow, but there was enough for some pleasant snowshoeing.
