Haven't gotten out for a couple weeks and am itchin' to see if my heart and lungs still work?

My shoulder hasn't been doin' so well, so I went in for an ex-ray. Looked good so my doc injected a conglomeration and decided it was an inpingement? (I think thats the terminology?) which essentially means that inflammation is pincing a nerve or something. The injection was an anti-inflamatory and some combination of steroids and other stuff. It immediately felt better, but the anesthesia is wearing off and it's sore again. I am hoping that in 2-4 days the steroids will take action and that my shoulder will work again?

Meanwhile I NEED (have to) to get out. Either the 18 mile loop "Browns Point-Signal Peak-Forsythe and Back" or Oak Grove to Signal Peak and Back. Anyone interested in escaping the heat and doing 5 or so hours on Pine Valley Mountain in the Morning? :nod:

It was a beautiful day for a hike. My head really needed a good "walk-a-bout". Started hiking around 8:30 AM and pushed my way up Browns Point Trail. For the most part a pretty un-exciting hike that gains a whole lot of elevation in 4 miles. Saw a beautiful Buck and Doe just as I stepped into Deer Flat. No other wildlife except 4 equestrian campers in Furtherwater. Left the trail and "bushwacked" the Signal Peak Ridge, poor visibility on top. Signed the register tucked away under a small pile of rocks on the not so obvious summit, highest point in Washington County. Decided to bushwack down the ridge to Burger Point and low and behold found another register? It wasn't on the summit, but I think a WHOLE lot of folks think it is :haha: Oh well.... Passed a group of Boy Scout Campers along the trail. On the way down Forsythe I passed several groups making their way up. The flowers were beautiful, the weather was perfect and a nice 18 mile loop for the soul.

Getting out for a walk-about is great for the soul. :2thumbs: When I was young, I would hike the Backlands just cause. I knew where all the water holes were, and I ate berries, apples, etc. I would go so far that dog would eventually ditch me and go home. :haha:

Nice pics Bo. Been a few years since I've been up there. Furtherwater, isn't that the meadow north of Whipple that a small stream comes into from Cabin Valley on the East? I used to camp in Cabin Valley because most people doing the trail miss it. (nice solitude)

No Kurt, Further Water is maybe 1/2 mile NNE of Signal Peak. It has a spring on the north end of the meadow that is the only water up top for some time. It sits at about 9800', 500 feet below the Summit of Signal Peak, the highest point in Washington County. It was a very, very hazy day or I would have posted some pics looking south to the Arizona Strip.

ahh--I see the error in my ways.

I had North valley in my mind(google check). The valley southeast out of North valley was called cabin springs. I always remember water there.

Next question--wasn't there a small meadow down that way called hidden valley? Right off the trail? Quite impressive as I recall.

[b]Not familiar with Hidden Valley? I've only visited a small area of Pine Valley Mountain (sheltered again! :haha: ). I've been up Blake/Gubler, Forsyth, Browns Point and Oak Grove numerous times. I used to see how fast I could get up Oak Grove to Signal Peak and back down! I got pretty fast once upon a time. Coming up either Oak Grove or Browns Point trails puts you on top of the ridge and just west of either trail intersecting with the Summit Ridge trail is Deer Flat and then a bit further west is Further Water.

Gorgeous photos! I can not believe the size of those Columbines!!! They look so beautiful and hearty. :2thumbs: I hope you get that shoulder back in action. Good to hear you getting out and about......good juice for the soul. :2thumbs:

Oops! The joke is on me! The register that I had been so familiar with really wasn't the actual summit. It is a register on a small peak to the south and east of the actual Signal Peak Summit! :lol8:

Well...I'm glad that I bushwacked toward Burger Point...I found the actual summit log/register! It' not very apparent on top because it's sort of "rolling hills" vs. a prominent peak. I now know :nod: Anyhoo..... :roflol:
