Any ice climbers around here? Anyone else foolish enough to get up at O dark thirty to go pull down some ice?
:five:
Below are a couple of pictures climbing Scruffy Band in Little Cottonwood Canyon.

Now, I've GOT to see some of you guys doing some ice climbing this winter. I'll take all the pics and video you want...from the bottom.
But seriously, I'd love to see photos of you guys climbing some ice this winter. That looks like a lot of fun. |

If you want some good ice climbing pictures you might want to hit Malan Falls in Odgen or Bridal Veil Falls in Provo on a nice Saturday morning in Febuary.
If you go to take pictures I suggest you wear your climbing or bicycle helmet. Lots of falling ice from the climbers.
There is also a big ice climbing festival every year at Bridal Veil. I'll try and post the date when I know more. You can go try it out and watch some demos, get some pictures.
Biggest problems with ice climbing is the sport is really gear intensive. Costs over $1000 before you ever hit the ice and then your partner has to shell out over $1000 for geat.
Only reason I get to got climbing is I have some friends who felt sorry for me so they drag me along and outfit me with gear.... its good to be me.

We're always happy to take newbies ice climbing. Makes me look like a much better climber ;)
We've got a lot of spare gear since we keep upgrading to newer equipment.
I'll post some ice pics when I get the chance. But here's a few from past years...

If you ever get back out to the Joe's Valley area, drop a note here. I could sure use a push in the right direction in finding your geocache at Cox Swale. |

That geocache might not be there anymore. It's been a long time....
As your heading up the stream there's a short (maybe 10ft) drop we climb up. The geocache was in a cleft in the rock, just to the left, as soon as you get to the top of the drop.
I'll check next time I'm down there. |
