Humane society warns against leaving pets in cars
June 30th, 2008 @ 6:49pm
With no end in sight to the hot summer temperatures, animal activists are reminding the public to never leave a pet in the car, even for a few minutes.
A 5-month-old boy in Layton died after his mother forgot him and left him in a hot car. That story reminded Gene Baierschmidt of the Humane Society of Utah that it's better to leave pet at home than let it die inside the oven of a hot car.
"Say it's almost 100 degrees now. In a matter of five minutes, it would be upwards around 125 [degrees]," Baierschmidt said.
He says in 90 minutes, that car can reach 160 degrees. No one can survive at that temperature. |
