I'm going to be bagging Thurston peak tomorrow. It's the high point of Davis county. Is anyone interested in tagging along? I also plan on nabbing some geocaches along the way. Respond to this or drop me an e-mail if interested.

Just one correction: Thurston is the highest in Davis and Morgan counties. It’s one of three peaks that are two-for-one when it comes to highest county peaks.

Have fun, it should be perfect conditions for summiting. What route are you taking?

I can see quite a bit of snow that looks lilke it is on the northern slopes.

What time are you going? I have already bagged the peak, but always ready to do it again.

I plan on going to Willard here pretty soon, VA, you interested in that hike? The route I am taking is from the Divide, and will get Ben Lomond again as well.

Ben Lomond is about 18 miles rt, and Willard is just a bit further.

If you want to cheat, you can drive to Willard from Mantua if you have a bike. I donl't know if a truck will be able to make it or not.

Did you do Thurston?
How was it?
Is there still snow blocking the road on the west side of Mt. Francis?

I drove as far as the gate below Francis peak. The road was snow packed after that. I walked up the road to the golf balls and made my way on the trail heading north. I made the mistake of taking the low road on east of the ridge. I was geocaching and there were several caches that way. The snow fields were really steep in spots and wide across the trail. Many times I slid several hundred feet on the snow. Once I nearly slid right into a lake. I made it a way's befor I had to turn back because of snow. I thinks if I would have kept west or higher on the ridge line I would have made it. It was a fun adventure and I nabbed several caches. This is some beautiful country. I'll definately try again in a few weeks.
