Josh and I drove down Thursday night. We camped about 12 miles from Yankee Doodle canyon in a National Forest campground over there (can’t remember the name of the place, Josh?).
On Friday midmorning we did Yankee Doodle, took us about 2 hours and the canyon was quite dry. Friday afternoon we hung out in Springdale drinking coffee and playing tourist while killing time to meet up with Bogleyites at the Bit n Spur. After the Bit n Spur we drove to the Tanner Amphitheater where we camped in their empty parking lot.
We got up early Saturday morning to go into the park and pick up our permit for Das Boot. Thanks Jaxx, Felicia and John for the permit!
We hit the trail into Das Boot at about 9 or 9:30am. We didn’t follow the Das Boot beta very well and ended up following a drainage down to the canyon rather than trying to stay to the left as directed. This drainage actually had some cool down climbs and put us about 60-70 ft above the canyon floor. We found a solid tree and rapped into Das Boot from there rather than attempt to go back up the drainage and around. Das Boot was cold. We could see our breath in the canyon and got into wet suits right away. There were a couple of very cold swims and at the end I rapped of Josh into the pool to check it out and Josh jumped.
Of course we finished the day with the Subway. It was loads of fun and beautiful, but that long slog at the end was grueling. When we got back to the Left Fork trailhead we dug up the beers we had buried that morning and I hitched to the Wildcat canyon trail head to get the Jeep.
We drove back to Springdale and straight to the Pizza Noodle where we ate, drank, laughed and slept.
Sunday morning we met up with Jaxx and his group of 6 for Pine Creek. Thanks again Jaxx for letting us tag along with you and your friends!

Wildcat Canyon TH

Something stinks.

The wrong drainage we took to Das Boot.

More wrong drainage.

Found Das Boot!

Our Rap into Das Boot.

I got this wetsuit off the KLS.com classifieds for 45 bucks!

Josh at the jump pool.

Josh took this picture to show my envy of his new shoes.

Josh getting ready to rap though a waterfall.

Killing time (drinking beer) at the Springdale city park.

Since we got rousted out of bed behind the PN we went to the park Sunday morning to have this yard sale. Cleaning out the Jeep and drying out stinky gear. We even had time to grill up some bratwurst for breakfast.

Hey Don, What did you think about that last rap in Pinecreek? I remember you asking me about it and then I kinda freaked you out. HAHA!! I see you survived it just like I did. :2thumbs:

Didn't freak me out nearly as much as I thought it would. Our improvisation rap into Das Boot was more awkward and took me awhile to start. :haha:

Don good job on the TR. That camp ground was Oak Grove. Nice place a little spendy at 5 bucks a night! HAHAHA! That was more than what i spent the other two nights.

Thanks alot Felica, John and Jaxx. The Das Boot permit was great. I am glad to have done the subway but next time I will be exiting Russels Gulch back to wildcat trail head.

I look forward to the next canyon!!

It was fun and you guys are funny dudes. I loved the kiddie jump into the narrow hole on pine creek. You made me laugh when you had to coax yourself to jump eight feet into the water but you rapped the 100' on pine creek no prob. I am glad you guys came with on Sunday and it was good to meet you. By the way our names were ; Chad(me), Emily(my wife), jaxx(Nick), canyon girl(jaxx's wife, aka Steph), Tyson and Emma. I hope we can catch up sometime this summer and do some sport climbing up AF or something. Peace

That's a great trip report, Don. You guys were great to hang out with at the PN. Randi mentioned it earlier but the "evil twins" is a funny story! Looks to me like you two had as good a time as anyone.

Great post! I enjoyed the video with the anticipation of jumping. It seems like everyone had a great time this weekend.

Was Jaxx at the Pizza Noodle? I was looking forward to meeting him this weekend and don't believe I did.
