I’ve been a slacker in this area for a bit...Well, Winter is gone and Spring has been upon here for a bit. Right now it’s like mid-summer with the heat wave we’ve been having. Hovering temps at 96+ degrees doesn’t sound like much, but throw in that near 100% humidity and the heat index is over 104. Humidity is the killer. Heavy, wet air and no place to go.
So, this heat didn’t hit of course until the day we left for Gore, Virginia. Headed down on Thursday for an Off Road event held at the Cove Campground who gives Big Dogs Offroad exclusive rights to use their 6000 acres for event purposes.. This yearly event is known as Grand Slam East/Spring Fling. Grand Slam East is an event dedicated to the Jeep Grand Cherokee’s and the Spring Fling opens up the event to all types of ORV’s. Big dog Offroad uses some of the money for children in need.
I jumped in the Clayton Off Road Manufacturing Toter Home and in tow was the Jeep JK and Clayton’s fabricated Buggy. It’s unbelievable what a straight piece of round steel tube can be made into. In the Toter was myself, Clayton, co-owner Adam (known as Polak) and Adam (known as Banana Boat) videotographer and Webmaster. Our other group would meet us down at the Cove as they left different points of Connecticut. With that group was Adam (known as Paco...named that due to a Mexican waiter at one of your Mexican restaurants right there in Moab half way up Main Street...GREAT MARGARITA’S!!), Greg, Adrian, Mike and Rich.
11:00 we rolled out and arrived around 17:00. We all arrived within an hour or so of each other and pulled out the coolers and the only thing that was ice cold, the beer. Setup camp and began cooking for the evening.

Campfire, what were we thinking. I guess it was the thing do to continue having a good time, except we were nowhere near that fire, too damn hot.

Banana Boat and one too many
Tasty burgers...not for me :D
The next morning was the “Driver’s Meeting” which all must attend. We lined up in our groups for our departure after. You can see the humidity in the air, just waiting for the heat of the day. Our departure lead us to the trail section called “Bunny”. It’s a 50 x 50 yard rock garden. Some of the rocks are bigger than our rigs with a few ledges. We use cones to make this Ice Aged Glacial Movement a little more technical to navigate and put a little fun competition into it. We have a tendency to do that to each other. Here are some pics using the Nikon D40, enjoy!

Thanks :haha:
Moab does have its challenges. The nice thing we do not have the blessings of; is traction. You guys have tons of it that makes places where you are possible, here, a Hot Tub...You're just going down into it, not out of it. :haha: It's just a different type of Rock Crawling, that's all. But, Moab does have some pretty challenging trails, especially some of the trails in AREA BFE just over the line there in San Juan County.
Here are some shots from Black Flag.
