Hey all,

I'm heading down solo to the Noobfest, which makes things a lot easier for coordination. I posted this in the Noobfest thread, but thought I'd make it more visible in case others might be interested in joining the fun. My current plans are that I'll likely try to jump on Nelson and Rock's trip on Saturday; will definitely see everyone from the fest at the Noodle on Saturday night, and am planning on doing the Das Boot/Subway trip on Sunday.

I'm also planning on staying down in Zion for the following week (so I'll be there from 6/7 - 6/15). I have a pretty aggressive list of canyons that I'm going to try to hit; but am obviously limited by those that don't need car shuttles. For an example of some of my days, I'm thinking of trying:
An echo/mystery combo - Maybe Spearhead too if time?
(Yes, I know Echo has snow in it.)
Maybe a Mystery/Spearhead and then Echo/Hidden?
A telephone, behunin combo
Imlay in a day from Potato Hollow
Heaps in a day from Phantom Valley
Boundary and Kolob combo
etc.

If you are going to be in Zion, and want to join me on any of the days (no offense, but we'll be chatting about your background if I don't know you), feel free to e-mail me at aj(at)meet-outdoors(dot)com. If you are just going to be in the area, and want to hang out a bit, feel free to contact me as well. Let me know ahead of time, and I'll give you my cell number; I'll have cell reception off and on through the trip. Likely won't be consistently camping in one spot; as it will depend on the canyon lineup.

Looking forward to seeing folks soon!
A.J.

You'll love the Telephone/Behunin combo. They accentuate each other really well. I've found that the early morning west rim hike (like pre dawn at scout overlook) is one of the best experiences in the park.

Wish I could swing some more time off this weekend. Maybe I'll just fake really bad diarreah for a couple of days. Think my boss will buy it?

I have no comment on the latter question, but the combo is called "Telephunin".

Wow. How does one do Mystery and Spearhead as a combo platter?

Also, how are folks gettin' into Spearhead these days?

Has anyone shored up the rap anchors in the final slot/chimney? My recollection is that they were mostly all old single bolt rappel stations. Ugh.

Cheers,

Nelson, you are welcome to join; but only if your symptoms aren't true...

Brian, they are both at the same trail (as is Echo.) You could do Echo, then hit the top of Majestic; camp. Do Spearhead, back up to Mystery, down and out. That's my thought anyway. We'll see, as I want to get Hidden in too; so need to do some thinking to match up gear better. (Full on ice gear in Echo, so thinking Echo and Hidden; and on another day do Spearhead then Mystery...

I think we're talkin' two different Spearhead's, then. Pull out the map, look for the formation called, "The Spearhead". Due south of Cathedral. The canyon behind the "Spearhead".

Two different trailheads, across the road and apart from each other. Weeping Rock versus the Grotto.

Where's your Spearhead?

Look in Tom's book. He has the Spearhead in there.
