Things like this really make one think. Anyway I have visited Uganda, including some of the very remote areas and found a poor but welcoming people that were very kind despite being in a historically war-torn nation. I never did run into the heart-breaking situations such as above.
Anyway, we already have our next overseas trip booked, but we're thinking from now on we should skip the rafting/mountain climbing adventures and such and focus more on humanitarian aid. Even thoguh they don't visit Uganda specificially, does anyone here have experience with such groups as or www.GlobeAware.org or www.GlobalVolunteers.org? The are supposed to be non-profit, so teh money should go to the actually causes. Has anyone here ever went on one of their trips? |

"If I stay in the house I feel lonely and I fear the memories," he explains.
That is one profound statement coming from a 10 year old regarding the loss of his mother and sister. This makes my heart hurt. If only each and everyone of us could adopt just one child like this.......maybe we could give these kids a better life. I wish it were that easy. |
