We needed one more canyon to finish up the weekend. Being a member of the “Seven Day Recreationists”, the main fork of White Roost turned out to be a great canyon to conduct service in on a beautiful Sunday morning. We spotted a vehicle at the usual turnout just west of the climb out. The main packs a little more punch than the Little White that we hiked the previous day. The main has some great sections of narrows, three nice rappels and a nice hike down the canyon to the old horse trail climb out. As with the Little White, we found the bottom of the canyon to be full of spring fed pools, numerous animal tracks, birds and all kinds of flowering plants.
At the rim of the climb out, the top of the Navajo SS, we were surprised to see three balloon tired 4 wheel drive ATVs and their drivers. Thanks to these ATV owners there is now a brand new road leading down from the old main road to the rim of the canyon. |
