I was at a volleyball tournament today and got talking to some guy that said there is a awesome swimming hole with a waterfall about a 1/2 mile below the hike out for the subway. Anyone familiar with this?
Thanks

It does exist!! I have film photos of me and a few friends swimming in that hole about 15 years ago (back when The Subway was an unpermitted and almost secret route). I haven't been back there since then so I am unsure of the exact location. It IS below the exit hike out though...
I am certain either Bo, Tanya, Tom or Shane knows it's exact location.... |

Not me... but I bet Bo does. I know they have set up practice SAR rescues in that area. I believe they set up a high-line once so he probably had a birds-eye view of whats below the hike out.

Dang! I've seen a lot of swimming holes with waterfalls on the way out? Not really sure which one your friend is referring to though. I've always liked hiking a ways up Little Creek and finding a "tub" deep enough to douse myself though. Cooler, cleaner water. |

Yeah there are lots like this one. This one is right before the exit. A good place to cool off. |

Is that Steve-O splashing around in the water? :lol8:
I can't believe noone knows the location of this waterfall/swimming hole. When I was there I recall it was about 15-20 feet tall, and the waterfall was split down the middle with a large rock. The pool at the bottom was deep enough to cannonball into and just barely touch bottom. We spent at least an hour hanging out there...... |

When I hiked that area I was fascinated by the large fish that populated the pools. But there are some great swimming holes in that area. There is a couple just past the dinosaur tracks in the black rock section you can do cannonballs off all day long. There are some "social trails" though that bypass the riverside and they are easy to miss.
Just hike in the river and not the trails and you will find some great spots to swim. Next time I'm going through, I'll try to take a pic for ya. I love checking out the fishes.
:2thumbs:
IMO though that river is too dang cold too swim in, haha. It's good for a refreshing dip on a hot day though. 1-2 mins and I'm done though. |

The gentleman explained it to be like what Rockgremlin has been to. He said you could do cannonballs into the pool.
Rockgremlin do you remember how far down from the take out of subway it was. I am doing subway with some scouts in june and would like to go hang out there for a while if it's not to far, and there not to worn out by then.

I honestly can't remember. If I had to guess I would say its farther than 1/2 mile. More like a mile, possibly two at the most. But like Cricket said, that river has a lot of those types of dive pools along it's length, and it might be worth it to explore a little downcanyon with a few scouts that are willing. |
