This is a new one we did today, it is about 1 1/2 miles south of the Kolob visitors center. We only videoed so no still shots. It was Steve from Colo. my wife and myself.
This canyon had 5 raps and one good downclimb. The raps were in the 20-90' range. We left a car at the visitors center and drove another to the upper loop parking. and hiked in from the top. This is a fun 4-6 hr natural anchor area. We ghosted all but the 90' rap and there we left webbing.
I would be glad to give directions if anyone is intersted, sorry for no stills.

We named it scratch because that is what a cougar uses to mark their terrain and there were many scratches as well as cougar tracks in this area.

Na! Really, sounds like quite the fun day!.......OK as isolated as I may seem to be...what is "Ghosted"?
Did you guys just put on your "Casper Suits" and go?

You left webbing on a 90' rappel? Why didn't you just downclimb it? :roflol:

We are all white enough that we didn't need no stinkin' suits :lol8:

ghosting in the sense that we retrieved our anchor webbing as to leave no trace.

downclimb?? but it was over 18" ya gotta rap if it's over 18" :mrgreen:

Just a suggestion, but wouldn't Scratch n' Sniff Canyon be a more descriptive/interesting name?

I too have noticed potential of canyons south of Kolob Visitor center. Early in Febuary I scouted out one that had a waterfall. Located near Ash Creek Reservoir, South Fork of Deadman Hollow. There is only one big drop with one minor one. I walked around the minor one to the big drop. It had two bolts for the anchor. I'm skeptical of the rock (not study) & botls though. I went up to and checked out the bolts, and one of them was not safe (IMO), and spinned easily. If you want pics I could post them, or check it out with you.

Sniff is next door, so the combo is Scratch n' Sniff.

It's not a potential C , it is a C. Just not sure whats in it yet.

It's in a very unsuspecting area.(does that help)

It does cut through sandstone.
