Look into Joomla www.joomla.org

You can have a very professional looking website up and running in a day.
Took me about 6 hours for the first one.

I'm adding a full blown shopping cart with Virtuemart now which take more time but is not substantially harder. www.virtuemart.com

question regarding page sizing:

i'm having problems setting up a page that works well for most screen resolutions. at varying resolutions the browser may or may not have to scroll side to side to see everything on the page. i notice that Bogley.com works for almost all resolutions without having to scroll side to side at all -- how did you do that? is that built into the sitecode or what?

isn't there a way to make the pages i design automatically resize to fit whichever resolution is used?

um yes it's all in the code an you can do it.... like i said before no matter what you do it's helpful to learn HTML.
on my website i use CSS that adds a property of "margin: 0px auto;" and it centers everything in the middle and i have a background image that repeats on the X axis. (all very basic stuff in css) but i don't know what type of webpage your doing sometimes just a simple <center> around the whole page in html will work fine. and then adding a width to the main content part. i wouldn't suggest anything wider then 1000px.

again it's kind of a hard topic. i'm sure everything above just went over your head as you read it. it's like tring to teach a blind man to read.

--EDIT i might want to say for center to work it has to be put around table and if you do that the whole webpage will have to be a table... and thats why it's better to use CSS

i can build one ground up but it's not going to be easy to edit it. if you don't know what your doing.

i'm haven't got into creating user edit interface type thing for that you would need php and mysql, and i only know the basics of both.

Thanks a bunch Dave! I went from not knowing anything about website design and publishing to being able to upload and edit my own website. Thanks again for patiently walking me through the steps.

Keep an eye on your mailbox... :naughty:
