I'm planning on going to North Wash for my first time this week and was hoping I could get a little advice. I was planning on doing lucky charms, the east and then west fork of Leprechaun canyon and maybe something else.

Are these canyons the easier or wider ones to start with or are there others that you would recommend? My main concern is how skinny the slots get, I'm not very big but my canyon partner is slightly larger than average. How is Blarney? I have some Beta and Kelsey's book but not sure how skinny they get.

Any help would be appreciated.

West Lep will have one significant skinny section, but it shouldn't stop a person under 250 pounds. East Lep should be no problem. Lucky Charms is ho-hum. East Blarney is an easy romp, and West Blarney is good, without the super skinny stuff. I'd say start with East Lep, move on to West Lep if he feels okay with belfast boulevard after looking at it from the bottom. And then hit up West Blarney.

lucky charms sucks, it's definately a "time killer" slog

like dan suggests, right lep, right blarney, left blarney, then left lep

that's the order my 6 and 4 year old did them... :ne_nau:

Thanks, it's good to get some confirmation. lucky charms doesn't look like anything to get excited about but we'll probably have a few hours of daylight to kill in the afternoon when we get there.

I've seen pics and heard of people taking their kids down some of these canyons but I wasn't sure if that made them easy or not, I can see a skinny canyon being a lot easier for the little guys than for adults.

My suggested order....

Right (east) Fork of Leprechaun.
Left (west) Fork of Blarney
One of the Maidenwaters.

To each their own. While Lucky Charms isn't anything wonderful, I definitely still find it a fun little romp and it has some great upclimbing for those wanting some practice. Fun downclimbs on the other side too for those not bypassing.

Blarney and Shilelaugh both can be done easily. I thought it was the right forks on those that I liked best (but my memory isn't all that great.) I'm sure you'll have a blast on whichever ones you choose...

If you think you could fit in Lucky Charms on your arrival day, I'd go for it.

I'd then go to Right Lep, and see how everyone fares. If good, then hit Left Lep. If not, hit one of the Shilelaugh's or Blarney's.

Depending on how quick your group goes, you are likely able to make multiples in one day...

Really, the only two really tight ones that you should definitely use caution on is Middle Leprechaun and Shennanigans. Others have some tight spots (like Left Lep) but they aren't as tight or as sustained. The other ones north of the Irish canyons (Stair, Fooling Around, Monkey Business, and Shennanigans) are a bit longer and I'd say are a step up from most of the Irish ones; some have higher stemming too. If you are just starting out, I'd get a few of the Irish set under your belt first.
