My wife and I are going out to Goblin Valley this coming weekend for my birthday. I was thinking about hitting Little Wild Horse while we are out there but am concerned about my dog. She hikes with us all the time but everything I have read has said the rocks are bad for their pads. How do you guys feel about it? Is taking the dog a bad idea? Is there anywhere in the canyon I'm gonna have to carry her?

Definately a few places you will have to carry her over or shove her under dependent on how small or large she is. At least with my experience with it last weekend, I didn't see anyone with dogs out there. I think when it's a little bit more hot, the rock can be extremely hot on their paws??? But then I don't own a dog, I have parrots so what do I know. :blahblah:

I have seen people with dogs in there. Just don't get it close to me in a canyon. :lol8: As long as you keep it on a leash, some dogs off a leash can be a pain in the ass.

A good hiking dog will have no problem with Little Wild Horse. My only concern is LWH is a heavily traveled canyon with a lot of people. If I were taking my dog I'd keep it on a leash (which I do most of the time I hake with a dog).

My dogs liked it, they didn't really need a boost except for coming down Bell in one or two spots.

Awesome. Thanks for the help. I'm still a little on the fence if we will take the dog or not. I called to make a reservation for the camp ground today and they were booked solid. Does anyone know of any good primitave campsites out there? I was told you could camp anywhere on the BLM land out there so it wasn't a big deal.

going west on the dirt road to LWH there is a ton of camping on the south side of the road, just pick a spot.
I would take my dog if it were me. I have always seen dogs in the canyon and it is really no problem. Of course I have only been in a couple of times.
