PNW in June is probably too early. Water is way too high and too much snow... August is the better choice. I'd go again, but I won't be around. I definitely want to do Mexico sometime too. I'd even humble myself and tag along with you Reed, as long as Eric was in attendance to moderate... :lol8: |

BTW, my favorite canyons are always the pretty ones. The physical side is sometimes trumps the beauty, but I'm a sucker for eye candy. Hell, I even did Zebra this weekend, and the thing SUCKS as a slot. But, it is pretty, thus worth the time.
Now, if you can combine beauty and FUN, you've got the goods... Imlay, and Choprock are at the top for me so far. |

| Naw, I'm a mello guy when I am not surfin the Interwebs. Easy to spout off and tick people off when you are behing the safety of your computer screen. Just ask ole Wadsworth. :haha: Can't go wrong canyoneering with Eric either. He has got a killer Dave Chappel impersonation that will have ya rolling all through the canyons laughin. Say when Dan and we'll head down and hit the slots. |

| Yea, Reed is all talk, he's pretty mellow in real life. He just really likes fire and explosions, but when you grow up in a small town what else are you gonna do right Reed? August sounds like the time of year for the PNW, seems like the season up there is pretty short. |

| August works as long as we get it in before school starts. As for fire and explosions, I have three fingers on one hand that has quite a story behind it. :haha: |

Cody and I were going to put together a Mexico trip again but it didn't seem like there was a lot of interest. With Cody's spanish we'd be fine and we were both there last year for Tom's dealio. We were going to go just the two of us with a couple of other guys we do canyons with in June.
Wouldn't be too hard to coordinate and set up the service with Cheuie (sp?). But I definately don't want to be responsible for everything, looked like Tom had his hands full last year with all of the planning. It was a total blast last year. I'd be willing to put it together for later in the summer if there was interest. |

"Guerrero Jesus (Bungee Mexico)" <jesus@bungee.com.mx>, which in Mexico shortens to "Chuy".
I actually spent very little time planning - I leave that to Chuy. What I did spend time doing was massaging complaints from people about how much it cost, which I was really NOT into. The first (and last) TomFest that involves real money.
Water levels go down in the summer, and the heat goes up. Not sure it is a good trip past June 15th or so.
My thought is that the trip is a lot more fun with a larger group (ie, about 10) rather than a smaller group (like 6). There are very few rappels to get delayed on, and the jumping is more fun if there are kids along, in addition to old fogey's like me. Also, your fixed costs (TWO guides required by law, cattle truck up the mountain) are spread out over more people.

I never understand the bitching about money part. The price of the trip was posted up front (I assume). So folks should just sign up and not bitch or find anther trip.
People bitching about money always takes the fun out of a job that is not fun to begin with.
In my business I guy who can plan, organize and execute is worth a small fortune. I'm thinking Tom is in the wrong business because his organizational skills are exceptional.

The price wasn't actually quoted up front, people signed up ASSUMING it would be as cheap as the ACA trip earlier. The ACA was able to cut costs in many ways that Tom wasn't and some people started complaining and even accusing Tom of pocketing cash, it did get ugly. I thought the trip was very reasonably priced, about $1000 including plane ticket, food, lodging, guides, etc... It was TONS of fun and I got more than my money's worth. Thanks Tom! |

I never understand the canyoneer mentality. Why can't someone who organizes a trip, here or abroad--make money, at least enough to cover their own expenses?? Yet the people I see who do organize events for the canyoneer community are somehow looked at in a bad light if they make anything off a trip.
So why bother if the reward is nothing but pissed off people in the end. Not defending Tom here, not really even thinking about him as I know nothing about his Mexico trip. If you can't trust someone who puts these trips together to do their best and get you the best available prices at the time--you need to find a new sport.(or just stay home and dream) |

Canyoneers are cheap  .. and I agree that's simply wrong! Tom should have made enough to cover his own expenses. I see why Shane hates to organize things for canyoneers. I better get him off the hook I put him on. |

I hate to say it but Tanya is correct....
Canyoneers bitch about paying for a trip, paying for beta, paying for lessons, paying for a fest, paying for gear.... always looking for a place to camp for free.....
I have to admit, I have found this attitude to be my biggest disappointment among the canyoneering community. I have been involved with many different sports over the years, and canyoneers as a group win the "dusty wallet award" hands down.
Organizing anything and pulling it off smoothly is a true talent and a lot of work. Folks deserve to be compensated for their talent and effort.
I'm thinking this is one of those.... if the shoe fits, then wear it type posts.... and is not everyone.
