I wanted to get out do something that weekend. It was forecasted to storm in the afternoon, so I got out early and headed up Big Cottonwood Canyon.
The parking lot was full of scout troops getting ready to leave after a cold night camping. I geared up and started up the road. The first 1/2 mile of the trail was a plowed road. It was pretty slippery.
When the road ended the trail was packed so I still didn't use the snow shoes. Finally after mile of walking I finally put on my snowshoes.
The snow had a hard crust until I got to the narrow canyon where the falls are. There the snow turned really powdery and soft. At least I think that Donut Falls were there. According to the GPS I was at the Falls, but they must have been frozen and buried in snow. It was really deep, I would guess 5-6 feet. I went as far as I could up the canyon, but the snow was too deep and the canyon too steep.
I turm to go back to the car. I didn't see anyone on the way up, but going down I passed a few groups of hikers.
It was a fun hike, it took less than 1 1/2 hours and I got home before the big storm hit. |

| To tell the truth, I'm not sure where the falls were. According to the GPS, I was there, but the snow covered everything. Lower in the canyon, the creek did come out of the snow and was running a little. |
