Yeah, I know it sounds morbid, but I've seen some of the coolest "dead" things on occasion.

I'll start the ball rolling with this "crystalized - mummified - spiderwebbed" adorable little creature found in Lost Soldiers Cave.

That Wooley Booger ain’t a “real “used to be living but ain’t no more creature! I call foul posting “THAT” anomaly on this thread. Now here are a few more “real” dead creature pics, and a story too.

On the isle of Dr. Moreau a few summers ago, my girlfriend Michelle and I, not wanting to walk two miles up the road to the proper “trail” drop in of Aradanes gorge, decided to make our way down a precipitous cliff far up canyon from the location the map indicated. We found a goat skull & two sets of goat horns on our way down the cliff. Once on the canyon floor we decided to take a hike “up” canyon as well, and lo and behold, after 20 minutes of hiking, what should appear before our eyes? The Golden Fleece! Not so golden now, and not all sparkly and pretty like in the movie, but deader than dead, and just hanging there between a pinch in the rocks! It was so GROSS! And fascinating too! And very SAD!

Not wanting to find a way around the creature, and needing to get away from the smell quickly we turned down canyon at this point. An eerie mist permeated the place and lent a surreal quality to the canyon. A mist unlike any we’d ever seen. “Baaaaahhhhh”, and “gggggghhhhhaaaaa”, and “bwahahahahbaaaaahaha” and all manner of other sort of strange bleats, half bleats, and noises could be heard above, behind and in front of us.

No “living” goats were ever encountered however, only “dead” ones. This place had a beautiful but eerily sinister feel. My girlfriend was getting a little freaked out at my fascination with the dead things, as I stopped to take pictures of the carcasses we found. Did it fall from the cliff? Did it die of disease? Why were there so many dead goats here? Yeah, it was fascinating.

Anyhow, these are the pictures I took ~ Enjoy! : )

We need msmnificent's shot of the coyote skull in here - that's mighty cool! I'll not post the photo itself, as it isn't mine, but here's a link to one wild photo:

That cool photo of Malia's is actually the one that prompted this thread! :)
I LOVE that composition!

Here's another "dead" creature found in North Fork of the Kings River. Three of our party walked right over it/around it without seeing it!
When I swam over there, and started to climb out this log, I'm like "Whoah! Check it out!" and they're like "check what out?"

Went back and did thid trip again a month later and his head had fallen off and gotten washed away, or someone had beheaded it!

High and low...I swing both ways.

And just what did you expect :haha:

Well, maybe this will pick you up :haha: At the time this pic was taken, Bambi's mom was still alive, but not for much longer

But, on the brighter side, dad's doing just fine :2thumbs:

Did you kill that deer? It looks like it's sleeping.
Anyhow, I guess I expected more bones than fur, or dead things that had been dead awhile. Not so sad (for me anyway) when they've been dead awhile....course, maybe I just have a fondness for deer over goats? Some of my goats didn't seem to have been "dead a long time "dead.

I've got a few more skeleton shots I'll post once I find them.
Skeletons are cool!

Actually, I took that pic as an educational tool. When a deer dies, it's eyes are open. If they're closed, they ain't dead yet :haha: I didn't kill it, that's a result of Bumper Cancer :lol8:

It is just a wee bit frightening. Go ahead and take the lead on our next hike at Freezefest, I just follow at a safe distance. :lol8:

Well, I wouldn't say it's a fascination.
It's more a morbid curiosity I guess.
I prefer "living" critters to dead ones, but the live ones
usually run away before I can snap off a photo!
I DO have a fascination with insects ~ :2thumbs: BUGS ARE COOL!

As a kid, I must admit, I did a lot of killing in the name of scientific research, or what passes for scienticfic research to a 10 year old!
I remember having all these test tubes (filled with alchohol for preservation) and a quite a collection of "dead things" that I had captured and killed.

Don't be frightened though. I grew outta that killing phase, and now I can't stand to even kill a spider or a cricket in the house. I just catch and release em. It drives my kids crazy, cuz I get mad when any of em fall off the "catch and release" bandwagon.
