In the MEMBERS ONLY forum I posted these files for Google Earth:
-Arches in Utah
-Thermal Hot Springs in Utah ,
-Water Holes in SW Utah,
-Utah Wilderness Boundaries areas.
I have loads more in the works too, such as:
-Falls
-Mines,
-more Water holes for Utah,
-Misc. in Utah,
-Lakes and Reservoirs for Utah
-Ghost Towns of Utah (although I could use some help for this one)
-Scuba Diving in Utah
I also have iceaxes routes (climb-utah.com) - I am a member and he does a great job with his site - in a Google Earth file but I'm still debating whether or not...but they sure make finding your way around a lot easier - especially with all the canyons listed on google earth and its a piece a cake to form a mental picture of where you are going...when you see the file. IE - knowing what canyons branch off from this trailhead..etc.
I also have other notable "things" just outside of Utah - like the AZ strip, parts of eastern nevada, and southern idaho.
ALSO, I have another file which is complete for most of the known caves in Utah (over 50+ listed) and WILL NOT post that either - so don't ask.
As you can see, I'm quite proud of my work thus far, and my goal with releasing these is to help you in your outdoor journeys. IE - you wanting to visit a certain area or city and then you pull up all the files about utah and see what to do is available to ya. make sense?
ALSO don't forget, that Sombeech did superb work with his file for nearly all listed mountainbike trails with maps, details, and links all within that file. Kudos to him! :five:
I really do think that a Google Earth forum would be great too. Or what would be really cool, eventually, is when a member joins the forum - a message would welcome him and have all these downloads at his disposal to discover Utah or something to that effect. I think that would be impressive and draw more people in to the site. Of course, we can keep some things secret...What does the admin and others think of that idea?
BTW - all of this information is PUBLIC info, so I'm not stealing it from anyone or "leaking" it from websites, unless posted otherwise.
Lastly, this program GPSBabel will convert .KML files (Google Earth) and send it to your GPSes, including Vista Cx, for free. Very handy, instead of manually typing them in. |
