Wow, Chuck was so skinny back then! And they were all so young! I'll never forget the first time I saw them, performing in a record store here in Vancouver. Then later that night at the Fabulous Commodore Ballroom. Kim wore the best sparkly green eyeshadow. They were such a HUGE influence.

Thanks for sharing those!

I'm so jealous that you saw Pixies in their prime! How cool is that?

I didn't know Frank's real name is Charles!

Charles Thompson. A few years ago, I was hanging around backstage after a FB & the Catholics show, and everyone was calling him "Chuck".

I was really bummed that I missed their last concert before breaking up, here in Vancouver, April of 1992. I was away going to school in Ontario at the time, and they played their last two gigs together at the Commodore. Ended up seeing them twice, sometime in '89 (though I can't find any record of that show online!) and Dec '91.

At the '89 in-store appearance, they played 3 or 4 songs off Doolittle & Surfer Rosa, in front of a big white tarp with "Pixies" printed in black and silver lettering. Afterwards, they signed it in big black Sharpie (well, three of them - Joey Santiago didn't sign anything that day). I have the tarp stored downstairs - need a nice big spot to display it!

When they re-formed, they played 2 nights (again) at the Commodore, right after reforming, but tickets were impossible to get. Rather than spend a few hundred bucks, I decided it was just as well to remember them as they were. (Though I did download the concerts)

I could go on for hours... Sorry.
