Hey TreeHugger. I really like your new avatar picture. Is that your van? My English teacher in High School had the sweetest VW van with the roof that can be propped up while she was camping. Your avatar is a small picture, so I couldn't tell if it was the same, but it looks very similar. I have always wanted one like my teachers, and if yours is the same, I was going to check and see if you liked it.

:-)!!! Yep, that's my van. A 1987 VW Westfalia pop up camper van. We just got it last fall so it's only been on two road trips so far. I LOVE it!! It's so much fun and soooooooo comfortable... perfect for those "car camping" trips and for when we need to go out of town for races, or whatever. Drives really nicely, although slowly, but I like not being in a hurry, and... when you're holding people up they dont get so mad cuz they just "consider the source" haha!! :-)

It's a pretty groovy little ride!!

That is so cool! I used to have one too...an 83' Vanagon Diesel...what a slow hog! but it would carry everything with all that diesel power, sadly, I blew the head in it right after the last time I rebuilt the motor...it died a quick death... :ne_nau:

Very nice ride - had a couple of friends with them, years back. I'm a little confused by the title of the attached photo, though. Does this part:

Little-Wild-Ho.jpg
refer to the location, or is it a pet name for the VW? :ne_nau:

Mmmm...Westy.

My dream van is a Vanagon Syncho Westfalia (full camper, none of that Weekender stuff). The Synchros are so hard to find that I would certainly settle for a air cooled Vanagon ('84 or older, I think). But, I just don't have the storage space, or the automotive expertise to maintain one.

Seriously, I thought about getting one of those instead of my Subaru. I think that would be so cool! I'm way jealous. Next time you pop the top up, post another picture would ya? I'm trying to figure out more of how it works. (Again, no rush. I won't be getting one any time soon. Just if you think of it).

I used to have an old school bus we used for camping and band trips. If school bus walls could talk....

That title refers to a trip down to Little Wild Horse Canyon... My girlfriend and I named her Katchina - a Hopi and Zuni indian super natural spiritual guide and bringer of gifts.

Discgolf - I'll post pics of the pop up when the snow melts off of it! :-) I probably wouldnt probably get one instead of a "regular" car though, too costly to maintain and kinda slow, plus it'll probably have lots of miles on it and driving it every day would jack that up quickly.... makes a great second car for recreational purposes.

Hey, you bought that last fall? I think I looked at it, too! Assuming you got it in SLC, that is. I remember looking at a burgundy Vanagon that was sitting in the Sizzler parking lot in Sugarhouse. It looked to be pretty clean, I just didn't have the funds for it at the time.

They say that if the original engine makes it past 100,000 miles it will probably last forever. The danger zone is just between 0 and 99,999 miles.

Okay...off to The Samba (http://www.thesamba.com/) to look as some classic VeeDub porn.
